The sacrificial anode is indispensable to protect the hull and the motor and all those metal parts from corrosion and galvanic currents. It is called the sacrificial anode because it is "sacrificed" by corroding to protect the boat and parts of it. Sacrificial anodes also called zinc are to be replaced every year or whenever they have corroded. There are different types of sacrificial anodes based on its use and they find zinc for marine engines that have cathodic protection for the outboard and / or inboard engine parts and the zinc for propellers that protect them from galvanic corrosion caused by galvanic currents.
